AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE: CAMBRIDGE EXAM PREPARATION | | cambridge exams | The
London College of English prepares students for the following University
of Cambridge Examinations: IELTS, FCE, CAE and CPE. The college will deal
with the entry formalities for June and December examinations, once the students
have been assessed by their teachers. Students are responsible for their
own examination fees. - IELTS - International English Language
Training System
IELTS is recognised as an entrance requirement by British,
Australian, New Zealand and Canadian universities and for secondary, vocational
and training programmes. Examinations are external and held throughout the year.
Although there is no obligation to attend an IELTS preparation course prior to
taking the examination, Cambridge stress that it would be very well advised as
their own studies indicate that it takes, on average, 200 hours of study to progress
from one band or level to another. This would be the equivalent of taking a full-time
course at the London College of English for at least 12 weeks. As band six is
usually regarded as acceptable for university entrance, the course at this college
will concentrate at around this level. - FCE - Cambridge First Certificate
This course is suitable for those who have reached a good level of English (Upper
Intermediate) is the able to deal confidently with a range of written and spoken
communications. The course is very intensive and requires hard work and commitment. - CAE
- Cambridge Certificate In Advanced English
It offers a high-level qualification
for those wishing to use English at work or for further studies as some British
Universities accept CAE (grade A or B) as an entry level of English for their
programmes. The course is designed to develop skills required by students progressing
to Proficiency-CPE, the emphasis is on realistic tasks and the ability to use
the language in practical situations. - CPE - Cambridge Certificate Of
Proficiency in English
CPE is for learners who have achieved a high level
of English and are able to function effectively in almost any English-speaking
context. Successful candidates at this level are approaching a standard of English
similar to that of an educated native speaker. It is recognised as a qualification
for entrance into British universities, as an equivalent qualification for broader
career purposes, and as a teaching qualification in EFL. For more
